3D Modeling class
Starting my computer modeling class today, in fact I'm posting this from one of the lab computers. We've run into some technical difficulties already, but I expect we'll be up and running soon.
I'll update the post when I get out.
I'll update the post when I get out.
*Later:
Well the session went about as the professor expected; he said that in the 2 or 3 years of the program the first session never proceeded as expected.
We wont be doing organic modeling until the next class (3D II) So we'll be doing geometric objects instead (vehicles / weapons / objects / etc.)
I'm looking forward to the rest of this class.

Projects in Progress
A few work in progress images of my various doings...
I've been cooking up a design idea, a variation of the A.D.I. Predalien design spawning from the the "super-Predator" introduced in the new PREDATORS movie.
Also based on the new "super-Predator" breed from the new PREDATORS movie.
This particular predator is an albino and if infamous even in the Yautja culture. Known as "Cetanu" (The God of Death) and "M-di H'dlak" (The Persecutor), he favors his unique katana inspired "M-di H'chak" swords and will relentlessly track those who would ignore the Yautja codes of honor, collecting a finger for his talisman necklace from each of his hunts.

California Update
Well, it's winding down to the last few days of my trip to California, it's been an amazing experience all-around.
We started out a little behind schedule, but quickly caught up by the second day of the trip when we made it all the way to Denver, Colorado, my birthplace.
Before we started out on the third day, we had the opportunity to see the Body Worlds exhibit, which Sarah and I had both heard of but had never seen in person. It was a fascinating experience, a great anatomy lesson, and a lesson in mortality all in one.
Once in Los Angeles, Sarah and I parted ways; she continued up to Sacramento where she's moving in with a friend and I stayed with my aunt Paula, and began to explore the various opportunities afforded to me with a week in L.A.
I started off with the L.A. Zoo, doing a series of sketch studies of all but the quickest, most illusive, or least interesting animals. Following the Zoo, I made my way further downtown to the Natural History museum which was sadly under heavy renovation. The lack of exhibits was made up for by the quality of the gift shop merchandise.
(Images to be posted on my return on Sunday)
I also had the opportunity to speak to a number of people regarding my portfolio and my projected next steps...
I visited Otis College of Art and Design and spoke to the head of the digital media department; a friendly gentleman who walked with a cane and had a collection of toys, video games, and figurines to rival even my own.
I also spoke to a number of my aunts various associates in the film and media industry who gave me excellent advice on portfolio construction and where I should focus my efforts.
Overall, this trip has been an awesome experience, and I'm excited to get home and start focusing my efforts on the future.

Creepy, wind-powered, walking sculpture
I've seen this artist's work before. They are quite uniquely engineered, using nothing but wind off the ocean these "creatures" are capable of traveling across the sand, and even changing directions when they reach the water.

Work Doodles Pt. 1
A quick doodle I developed into a colorful creature... The Kangameleon. Proving that not all my creatures are scary.

Creature of the Week 178: "Supersonic Spike"
Using pictures amongst what remains of the data I lost off my hard drive for lighting reference, I decided to do a new cell-shaded digital painting of my "Sprinterbug" design.
The Sprinterbug is a predatory, hive-based, insect that hunts in swarms and fires venomous stingers in order to bring down larger prey, before sectioning them up with their sharp jaws and carrying in back to the hive piece by piece.
"Run like the Dickens" or, Nightmares of a Struggling Artist...
So this is my art blog, cataloging creatures of a subconscious landscape; a very personal collection of species from the realms of fancy, whimsy, and darkest nightmare.
My personal struggle is one of motivation...
Inspiration rarely strikes when opportune, but I might doodle something at work after I'm done with my opening duties, in the ten or fifteen minutes I have until the hungry customers arrive. But most often I'll have a quick burst of inspiration, and make a mental note, locking it away to be drawn from in the future.
My art is a unique, if not novel form of expression; H.R. Giger has always been one of my favorite artists. The Alien is nightmare in it's purest form. A marvel or art and special effects.
My creatures are spawned from a primeval, violent, subconscious world. I summon them with inspiration, or they intrude upon my dreams.
My professional goal is to become a concept artist for the movie or video game industry; what follows are my daily entries on a long and sometimes direction-less path towards that goal...
